What Is the DDA?
The Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) is a division of the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS). DDA provides services and support to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families throughout the state.
Who Is Eligible?
To be eligible for DDA services in Washington State, individuals must meet the following criteria:
- Have a developmental disability as defined by Washington law
- Be a resident of Washington State
- Apply and be determined eligible by DDA
Developmental disabilities include intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, autism, and other neurological or other conditions found by DDA to be closely related to intellectual disability.
Types of Services Available
DDA offers a wide range of services designed to support individuals at every stage of life:
Community-Based Services
These services help individuals live as independently as possible in their communities. They include personal care, respite services, and community engagement programs — all services that Advanced Care proudly provides.
Residential Services
For individuals who need more intensive support, residential options include adult family homes (AFHs), supported living, and group homes.
Employment Services
DDA supports individuals in finding and maintaining meaningful employment through job coaching, vocational training, and supported employment programs.
How to Apply
The application process involves several steps:
- Contact DDA — Reach out to your local DDA office or visit the DSHS website to begin the application process.
- Gather Documentation — You'll need medical records, psychological evaluations, and other supporting documents.
- Complete an Assessment — A DDA case manager will conduct an assessment to determine eligibility and service needs.
- Develop a Service Plan — Once eligible, work with your case manager to create an Individual Support Plan (ISP).
